Egypt is said to be engaged in discussions with China for the procurement of a new radar system.
The ongoing negotiations concerning the radar system are said to have been discussed with the Chinese side during the latest visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to China, to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games.
Tactical Report has prepared a 202-word report to shed more light on the subject.
The Egyptian-Chinese arms relations keep on expanding in many areas.
Reports from Cairo suggest that Egypt is engaged in discussions with China for the procurement of a YLC-18A radar system, a long-range, 3D low altitude blind compensation radar developed by the Chinese defense contractor Nanjing Research Institute of Electronics Technology (NRIET).
The radar has been proven to be effective at detecting low altitude aircraft such as helicopters, combat aircraft, UAVs, and low altitude cruise missiles.
Sources close to the situation say that the negotiations started in 2021, and Egypt is expected to receive a handful of such systems.
There are talks that the number of ordered radars is 4.
It was revealed that the ongoing negotiations concerning the radar and technicalities were discussed with the Chinese side during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's last trip to China to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, where he met with the Chinese President Xi Jinping on (5/2/2022).
Available information says that a Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement will also be included, allowing Egypt to manufacture local variants of the radar.
The agreement will also include joint training contracts with Egyptian technicians on how to manufacture and maintain such radars.
