Reports from Cairo suggest that the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production (MoMP) is in talks
with several South Korean defense companies for the transfer and localization of technologies used
to produce 2D and 3D ground-based radar systems.
The South Korean companies include LIG NEX1, SAMSUNG, and Hanwha Defense.
The talks are primarily related to Egyptian programs to manufacture multi-purpose ground-based
radars to detect drones, stealth aircraft, and cruise missiles.
The MoMP is collaborating with a South Korean defense company, to develop a short-range
ground-based radar named SALEM, to detect low-altitude air threats.
Egypt plans to be the leading Arab country in manufacturing advanced radar systems.
MoMP’s cooperation with South Korea and other allied countries aims to fulfill this purpose.
Aides close to Egyptian Minister of Military Production Mohamed Ahmed Morsy, say that South
Korea would be Egypt's strategic partner in the field of electronic warfare.
These aides add that the Egyptian-South Korean partnership will expand to other defense fields
including the manufacture of air defense systems and military vehicles, along with ground-based
and naval radars as well as radars that can be integrated into helicopters and fighter jets.
